Munster Juniors v Donnybrook LTC

Donnybrook LTC would like to thank the munster squad for travelling up to play our squad

What a super day we had. A beautiful sunny day in Donnybrook Ltc, where we were treated to some great tennis.  The club was buzzing, that lovely sound as the tennis ball hits the sweet spot on the racquet,  the sound of laughter from both sides when away from the serious stuff on court.

Munster were a pleasure to have in the club.  Both  teams are an absolute credit to themselves, their  Province / Club, Coaches and the Sport.

A big thanks to Cian Blake, Sinead Dunne & Fitzy the Munster Coaches,  Owen Casey our Coach.  The work these guys have put in liasing with each other and myself behind the scenes was second to none.

To our amazing Junior Committee and our parents for the selfless work that was put in to  hosting the event.

Would also like say a big thank you to Dee, Anita and our student on duty Peter Carton. Also Club President Chanelle and the committee for supporting the running of the event

35 tableDonnybrook's Over 45 Seconds Team endured a difficult campaign playing at class 2 but coming up against many club's first teams in their group. Well done to all involved and thank you to the 2019 Senior League captains – Conor O’Neill, Peter Johnston and Eoghan O’Meara - for their exceptional work running the teams.

Men’s Senior League – Midway Update

The Men’s Senior League kicked off on September 1 st and runs every Sunday at 11am through September. Donnybrook LTC have three teams competing this year: Over 35s Team 1 at class 3, Over 45s Team 1 at class 1 and Over 45s Team 2 playing at class 2.

O35 Team 1
A slow start to the campaign in week 1 with a 2-1 loss to Shankill 3 is a distant memory thanks to consecutive 2-1 wins against Co Wicklow 3 and Glenageary 2. Captain Peter Johnston brings his team to Wicklow Town on Sunday, the winner here will be in pole position for a tilt at progression into the knockout stages. Detailed results are available here>

35T1 table

O45 Team 1
Two 2-1 wins against Sandycove 1 and Sutton 2 have Conor O’Neill’s class 1 O45 team well positioned with three pool matches still to play. Anyone wishing to see come class 1 tennis at Donnybrook should stick Sunday 22 nd @ 11.30am (vs Castleknock 1) and Sunday Oct 6 th @ 11am (vs Fitzwilliam 1) in their diaries. o45 t1

O45 Team 2
It was always going to be a tough ask for the O45 T2 because they are up against many clubs’ first teams. Battling performances against Greystones 1 and a very experienced Carrickmines 2 have alas resulted in two 3-0 defeats. Commenting on the team’s effort, revered Donnybrook LTC league aficionado Alil O'Shaughnessy paraphrased Vince Lombardi stating “winning isn’t everything, but wanting to win is”. Men’s Summer League: Playoffs Update

With 5 of our 6 teams progressing to the playoffs substitutes were thin on the ground as 35 players took to the court last week. Two teams marched on to secure home semi-finals on Wednesday 26th.

Team 5 after their win vs Wicklow Town

Team 1- 3rd of 24 at class 2
Finishing the group stages 3rd out of 24 teams in the class 2 grade, Team 1 now look to push on and regain the class 1 status they lost last season. Having dispatched near-neighbours David Lloyd Riverview in the quarter finals last Saturday, captain Andrew Kirwan will be hoping home advantage can get Donnybrook over the line when Templeogue 1 provide the opposition next Wednesday 26th at 19.00. Support very much welcome.

Team 3- 7th of 36 at class 4
A trip to Sutton last Wednesday for their last 16 tie ended in a tight 2-3 defeat to a talented Sutton outfit. Captain Peter Richardson will be buoyed by the strong finish to the group stages. This team were unlucky with a few untimely injuries to key players but showed that the talent is there to have another decent tilt at promotion next season.

Team 4- 16th of 42 in class 5
Having pulled off a great escape in week 5 with a 5-0 win to emerge from a difficult group, Team 4’s presence in the playoffs was very much regarded as bonus territory. A trip to Templeogue last Wednesday started with Ravi Manumachu taking his maiden season winning streak to 4 matches but ended with him being joined on the balcony by the rest of the team to drown their sorrows after a 2-3 defeat.

Team 5(pictured above) - 1st of 42 in class 6
Finishing top-of-the-class after the group stages and cruising to promotion with a 4-1 win against Clane 2 put a target on the back of Team 5 but there was no sign of nerves as Wicklow Town 3 visited Donnybrook last Saturday. Enda Bannon lead the charge with a 6-3 6-2 win at singles 1 and he was closely followed by the doubles of Connaughton/Bortolato and Coffey/Clancy who won in straight sets. Newtown Park 2, who finished 4 of 42 after the group stages, provide the opposition in the semi-final which takes place straight after Team 1’s semi on Wednesday 26th in Donnybrook.

Team 6- 21st of 43 in class 7
The ‘prize’ for a strong finish to the group stages for Robbie O’Flynn’s Team 6 was a last 16 match against the best-performing team across all classes. David Lloyd Riverview 5 won 24 of their 25 matches in the group stages. With nothing to lose Team 6 went down fighting as the lost 1-4 on the hardcourts at Riverview.

Well done to all five teams who got through to the playoffs and represented the club so well again over the last week. All the class reports are available on the DLTC website here . Let’s all get down to Donnybrook for 19.00 on Wednesdayand give our two semi-finalists the support they deserve.

Men’s Summer League: five teams reach playoffs

The group stages of the Men's Summer League have now finished and Donnybrook LTC men have delivered beyond all expectations with five of our six teams securing a playoff spot. The knockout stages take place over the next two weeks and all support is very much welcome.

Team 1 – Group winner. Home QF vs David Lloyd Riverview 2 on Sat 22 nd .

A 3-2 win vs Portmarnock 1 on Friday means this team finished the group stages with four wins from five matches. Looking at the class 2 section as a whole, Donnybrook 1 secured the second highest number of points in the group stages. Well done captain Andrew Kirwan. Detailed view of results available here .

f1

Team 2 – Maintained class 2 status.

Having gained promotion from class 3 last season, the brief for Team 2 was to maintain their class 2 status. Completing this mission was particularly impressive given the group in which they were placed contained four club #1 teams. Well done to captain Jerry Sheehan. Detailed view of results available here .

f2

Team 3 – Group runner-up. Away Last 16 playoff vs Sutton 2 on Wed 19 th .

A 5-0 away win for the second week running saw Team 3 secure second spot in their group with a few points to spare. The next target here is to overcome Sutton 2 on Wednesday and thus gain promotion to class 3 for next season. Well done captain Peter Richardson. Detailed view of results available here .

f3 tbc

Team 4 – Group runner-up. Away Last 16 playoff vs Templeogue 6 on Wed 19 th .

After a frustrating defeat last week, Team 4 bounced back with a 5-0 win against Deerpark 3. This win left captain Andrew Synnott anxiously sipping post-match pints at Donnybrook as he awaited results elsewhere. News came through about 6pm that second spot in the group had been secured…Andrew’s nerves had long-since steadied thanks to Kieran O’Donoghue’s bar tab. Detailed view of results available here

f4

Team 5 – Group winner. Home Last 16 playoff vs Clane 2 on Wed 19 th .

Having secured top spot with a week to spare Team 5 didn’t take the foot off the pedal and recorded a 4-1 win over Trackside 1. An impressive league campaign to date has seen 23 of a possible 25 points claimed. Captain Darragh Connaughton will be hoping to keep this momentum going when Clane 2 visit Donnybrook on Wednesday 19 th .  Detailed view of results available here .

f5

Team 6 – Group runner-up. Away Last 16 playoff vs David Lloyd Riverview on Wed 19 th .

Two narrow 3-2 defeats in the opening two weeks meant that Team 6 needed to finish well…and that they did. A 3-2 win against Sutton 7 was enough to claim a playoff place next Wednesday against a very strong looking David Lloyd Riverview. Best of luck to captain Robbie O’Flynn and team. Detailed view of results available here .

Well done and thank you to all players who represented the club so well over the last five rounds. Team 1 need to get to the final to gain promotion to class 1. All other teams need to win one playoff match to secure a quarter final place and promotion to the class above.
